About us

The Colloidal Materials Group develops its activity at the Institute of Materials Science of Seville, a join center of CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (National Research Council of Spain) and the University of Sevilla, and is mainly devoted to the study of nanostructured functional materials with special emphasis on those consisting of uniform nanoparticles.

Main Research

The main research efforts of the group concentrate on the development of new procedures (in liquid and gas phases) for the synthesis of nanomaterials with tailored features, their characterization and the evaluation of their properties in order to achieve innovative applications. Fundamental science as well as and the knowledge transfer to the industry are both addressed by the group.

Focus

At present, the main interest is focused on the development of new environmentally friendly pigments for ceramic applications and lanthanide based nanophosphors for optoelectronic and biomedical applications (MRI imaging, optical imaging, detection of tumors.etc.). Research projects supported by both national programs and privately owned companies are the main financial resources of the group.
